We honor what would have been Izzy Sherman’s 14th birthday.
Izzy, the beloved daughter of VVK colleagues and friends Alana and Mike Sherman, continues to inspire us with her courage, spirit, and generosity. Throughout her journey, Izzy showed extraordinary strength and resilience. Twice, she defied medical expectations, outliving prognoses and living each day with determination and grace.
Please join us in remembering Izzy and celebrating the powerful legacy of a remarkable young girl who inspired everyone she met. Izzy Gives is an organization, created in the spirit of Izzy’s generosity, that supports other children facing serious medical challenges or other life challenges.

What Izzy Gives Has Achieved
Thanks to your support, Izzy Gives has been able to provide comfort, hope, and critical assistance to children and families in need. Here are just a few examples of the lives it has touched:
- A young boy who lost his eye to retinoblastoma was able to receive a prosthetic eye. Sadly, insurance labeled it as “cosmetic,” but Izzy Gives ensured he didn’t have to go without.
- A sweet little girl was provided with a Tomato Soft-Touch Sitter, enabling her to keep up with her four siblings and enjoy more of life’s simple pleasures.
- Across the globe, a girl named Patience in a remote Kenyan village received essential items needed to attend school, paving the way for a brighter future.
- When a family was denied lodging at the Ronald McDonald House during intensive therapy, Izzy Gives stepped in to make their stay possible.
- Izzy Gives contributed to the renovation of the dorms at Canine Companions, where Izzy received Aurora, her service dog. Being an ambassador to their dorms during her lifetime, it was only fitting that her charity helped bring them a little love and care, just as they had done for her.
- Perhaps the most heart-wrenching yet impactful support provided is helping families who have suffered an unimaginable loss. Izzy Gives was able to lift the burden by covering funeral costs, relieving just a piece of the weight during an immensely difficult time.
The Power of Community
Izzy’s legacy continues to inspire others, like her childhood friend Addison. Addison made Izzy Gives her Bat Mitzvah Project, collecting items to create care packages for children and families who face long hospital stays. With contributions from friends and family through an Amazon wish list and monetary donations, they assembled age-specific bags filled with comforting essentials. These packages are now delivered by therapists to brighten the days of children entering hospitals, all in honor of Izzy Gives.
