Grand Opening: New Concept in Detroit
Strategic media outreach and broadcast appearances helped Vecino break into Detroit’s competitive dining scene with immediate buzz.
Challenge
Vecino, a modern Mexican restaurant set in Detroit’s historic Midtown neighborhood, opened its doors in April 2024. The restaurant aimed to introduce elevated, Mexico City-inspired cuisine to the city, while revitalizing a 50-year-vacant building into a vibrant space for dining, drinking, and community gathering. As a new business to the city’s culinary scene, Vecino needed to build local awareness and excitement ahead of its opening and beyond.
Strategy
To support a successful launch, VVK PR + Creative developed a targeted communications strategy tailored to reach Detroit’s food and beverage, entertainment, and consumer media. Efforts focused on creating a comprehensive press kit complete with fact sheets on the restaurant’s menu offerings and the freshly renovated space, as well as team and chef bios. We also conducted outreach to key business and food journalists, coordinating live cooking segments with local broadcast stations to highlight signature menu items and generate buzz about their in-house masa program. Campaign timing also aligned with the construction of Vecino’s outdoor patio to capitalize on increased seasonal foot traffic.
