Michigan Shines for Autism Gala
April 27, 2024
On Saturday, April 20th, Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAoM) held their 13th annual Michigan Shines for Autism Gala at the MotorCity Casino Hotel. Every year, AAoM brings the state’s top leaders together to advocate for individuals living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). During the gala, AAoM launched their new brand which better reflects its commitment to serve as a bridge to connect people living with autism with the resources and support they need. Discussions were had about improving the well-being of people living with ASD and how creating spaces where they can thrive is a group effort.
This is my second year attending this impactful event and each time I leave with a sense of urgency. I’m compelled to further my commitment to our communities and those that are underserved. At VVK, I’ve been able to see the impact nonprofits have on the community and the dedication our clients have to be the change they want to foster. It fills me with joy to see state leaders and policymakers come together and raise money for a community that has been underserved for years.
As a PR professional, I believe being an advocate shouldn’t stop at the work you do for your client. It should extend into your community and the communities of the people you know. Raising awareness and support for causes that truly foster change is more important now than ever before. PR professionals have the power to share important information and get the right news in front of the eyes of others. It’s amazing to see our clients work and the ability to bring people from all walks of life together to make a greater impact come to life. They continue to inspire me to be a better advocate to my communities and act for the movements that will change the world.
